# Capital One Lost or Stolen Debit Card: Lock and Replace It

> What to do if your Capital One debit card is lost or stolen: lock it in the app, request a free replacement online, check for fraud, and activate the new card.

**Quick answer:** If your Capital One debit card is lost or stolen, sign in to the Capital One mobile app or capitalone.com and lock the card right away. If you can't find it, choose **Replace Lost Card**. Capital One deactivates the old card and mails a free replacement to the address on your account, usually in 5 to 7 business days.

This guide explains when to lock your card versus replace it, the exact steps on the website and in the app, and what to do after your new card arrives.

## Lock or Replace: Which Do You Need?

**Lock your card** if it's only misplaced. Locking blocks new purchases and transactions until you unlock it. If you find the card, simply unlock it and keep using it. Locking does not stop automatic bill payments or other scheduled transfers.

**Replace your card** if you're sure it's lost or you think it was stolen. When you choose to replace a lost card, your existing debit card is deactivated immediately, so it can't be used again even if you find it later.
